This is provided as a guideline of events that have happened concerning the Port Jefferson Station revitalization plan.
The Town of Brookhaven has completed a comprehensive study of the area as well as a commercial hub study. You can use the links to the studies above, or go directly to the Town’s official website at www.brookhaven.org. The commercial hub study was adopted by the Town of Brookhaven on March 4, 2014 and is supported by the entire Town Board.
Where do we go from here?
The next step would be for the provision of an adopted Land use plan by the Town of Brookhaven which has the authorization to create the proper zoning. This is known as an Overlay District.
The Suffolk County Sewer Agency, along with the State Department of Transportation and the MTA will participate in the redevelopment plan.
How do I get Involved?
As a community resident or business owner you may have some interest in the planning of this area. You can contact your local Town of Brookhaven Representative, Councilmember Jonathan Korneich at 631-451-6963 or email him at jkornreich@brookhavenny.gov.
What will they build in the Overlay District?
Some possible options are a combination of housing, i.e. senior, attainable, student housing, first time job seeking residents, with commercial retail that would benefit from the surrounding new residential developments.
Any development would be done with an eye toward complying to the Town’s and community’s comprehensive plan and vision of safe and walkable streets which would foster a sense of community. Additionally, the creation of community space and amenities should be part of any good redevelopment plan.
